Famous for its 13 km beach of extremely fine sand and limpid waters surrounded by pleasant hills and historic towns of rare beauty such as Urbino, Gradara, San Leo and Corinaldo (birthplace of Saint Maria Goretti), Senigallia is the ideal place to spend a sunny holiday by the sea with a few cultural trips thrown in.
Of extremely ancient origins, the town has a fascinating historic centre. Well worth a visit is the Della Rovere Castle, built over different historic periods from the XIV to the XVII centuries A.D. so that, like an extraordinary history book, it evokes époques, battles and events which took place centuries ago. Also of interest is the Foro Annonario, a harmonious round brick structure in neoclassical style, planned by the Senigallia architect Pietro Ghinelli and carried out in 1834. It is characterized by a portico with twenty-four Doric columns under which a picturesque fish, fruit and vegetable market is held daily.
